Welcome to DiscoverGaston.comIt's all here in Gaston County — lakes, mountain views, a world class botanical garden, fine dining and shopping, top-notch schools and cutting edge health care. It's a great place to live, work, raise a family and play.
It's a place where traditions are embraced from fish camps to drive-in movies — where churches fill on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings and Vacation Bible Schools are a staple of summer. It's a place where neighbor helps neighbor, whether it be through the United Way of Gaston County, The Gazette Empty Stocking Fund or the Day of Caring. It's a place where people know how to have fun, from the Run for the Money, to annual town festivals to traditions like the Just Plain Dog Show and outdoor concerts. Museums, libraries and parks dot the landscape. It's a place where fans of sports can get their fill from Little League to American Legion ball to the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Bobcats. And it's a place where people take their NASCAR seriously. From the state-of-the-art orchid conservatory at the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and the U.S. National Whitewater Park just outside of Mount Holly, to an 18th century farm recreated at the Schiele Museum, Gaston County embraces the past and looks to the future. Gaston County is a place that celebrates its hometowns. We're growing at a healthy clip, but we are still small enough that neighbors know each other and you can still make your voice heard at town hall. Which brings us to the one thing that really makes Gaston County such a great place to live — the people. In this issue you'll meet some of them and they'll tell you in their own words why they wouldn't choose to live anywhere else. So follow us as they help us discover Gaston. |
