I lived in Charlotte for several years and really just missed the small town atmosphere and decided to come back to Gaston County. Having lived in both a larger city and a small town, I prefer living here where things move at a slightly slower pace. My hometown is special because … I have spent most of my life living in Gaston County and here is where my roots are. My dad still lives in Lucia and I still see many people I went to high school with. There is just a familiar feel to living here that I don’t think I could experience living anywhere else. My favorite thing about my town is … For the most part, Stanley is a pretty quiet place. It’s nice to live in a quieter town and then drive to the bigger city for entertainment. I also feel safe here. While crime knows no zip code, the severity of crime and the frequency of it in Stanley is significantly less than it is in larger municipalities. If I ever left, the thing I’d miss most is … I would definitely miss the “small town feel” Stanley has. I love being able to walk down the street and almost everyone you pass will wave or say hello. I also like being able to walk into a local business and have the people there know me by name. I have found that any time I run errands in town I am going to see someone I know. The future of my town is … I see Stanley experiencing a lot of growth over the next decade. As the surrounding cities and towns develop it is inevitable that some of that growth will spread to Stanley. There are already new housing developments and businesses coming to town and I feel we will continue to prosper. Fast Facts
